Updated AVR Development board from Protostack

The Protostack 28 pin AVR Development board supports all of the 28 pin ATMEL AVR microcontrollers including the popular ATMega8, ATMega168 and ATMega328 microcontrollers. The board includes all basic infrastructure to support the AVR, 6 and 10 pin ISP ports, a dedicated power supply block, AVCC filters, external crystal block and a very large prototyping area. I/O ports are presented in at "untangled" fashion as opposed to the order on the microcontroller.

All protostack boards conform to a common full or half size form factor. This provides for expandability by creating board stacks. The 28 pin AVR board comes in the full size which measures 5" x 3.7" (127 x 93.98mm).

Version 1.6 of AVR 28 pin board - Changes from Version 1.5
  • The size of the IDC/Dual row area has been increased from 2×8 to 2×9 holes.
  • Square and circular pads on the top layer for polarised headers.
  • Labels for the ISP-10 connector.
  • Crystal oscillator holes now have pads only only on the bottom layer.

Version 1.5 of AVR 28 pin board - Changes from Version 1.4

AVR28

The most notable change is a figure-8 shaped hole for mounting the voltage regulator. This configuration allows for both Input/Ground/Output (IGO) and Ground/Output/Input (GOI) style voltage regulators. Other changes to the power supply include the addition of a diode to protect against reverse polarity and a resettable fuse.

All in all there are 6 changes
  • Addition of diode to power supply block,
  • Addition of resettable fuse to power supply block,
  • Support for both IGO and GOI style regulators in power supply block,
  • Size increase of IDC/Dual row section from 2x7 to 2x8 pin,
  • Additional labels for I/O ports, and
  • Small circular mark to identify mounting point for CR2032 battery clip.

Protostack BoardChanges from previous Version

The new version brings 4 enhancements

  • Addition of a power supply section
  • ISP-6 interface is now 2x3 pin instead of 1x6 pin
  • Addition of IDC/Double row header section
  • Better labeling of power busses

The dedicated power supply block has an L7805 voltage regulator at its core. Unregulated power can be brought to the board using either a 2.1mm barrel connector or a 2 pin header.
