Updated AVR Development board from Protostack |
|
The Protostack 28 pin AVR Development board supports all of the 28 pin ATMEL AVR microcontrollers including the popular ATMega8, ATMega168 and ATMega328 microcontrollers. The board includes all basic infrastructure to support the AVR, 6 and 10 pin ISP ports, a dedicated power supply block, AVCC filters, external crystal block and a very large prototyping area. I/O ports are presented in at "untangled" fashion as opposed to the order on the microcontroller.
All protostack boards conform to a common full or half size form factor. This provides for expandability by creating board stacks. The 28 pin AVR board comes in the full size which measures 5" x 3.7" (127 x 93.98mm). Version 1.6 of AVR 28 pin board - Changes from Version 1.5
Version 1.5 of AVR 28 pin board - Changes from Version 1.4 ![]() The most notable change is a figure-8 shaped hole for mounting the voltage regulator. This configuration allows for both Input/Ground/Output (IGO) and Ground/Output/Input (GOI) style voltage regulators. Other changes to the power supply include the addition of a diode to protect against reverse polarity and a resettable fuse.

The new version brings 4 enhancements
The dedicated power supply block has an L7805 voltage regulator at its core. Unregulated power can be brought to the board using either a 2.1mm barrel connector or a 2 pin header.
Availability and Pricing
The board is available from www.protostack.com by itself or as part of an ATMega8 or ATMega168 development kit. Pricing starts at $9.60 for single units with volume discounts being available.
